Does an apple a day keep the doctor away?

This well known proverb is still around. What exactly does it mean? I decided to explore this saying and it goes back to the idea that this beautiful fruit contains some healing or curative properties. According to Holly Phillips, M.D., affiliated with Lenox Hospital in New York City and medical correspondent for WCBS-TV, the mantra “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” is true … sort of. “Apples are very healthful and contain antioxidants that help fight cancer, stroke and heart disease.”
Dr. Phillips is an advocate of apples since they are packed with pectin, a soluble fiber which helps the body eliminate cholesterol and fends off environmental toxins. Though it’s not guaranteed they’ll keep the doctor away, they certainly can help.

Humm, intersting facts from the expert. So now buy more apples for your daily cooking. Apple pie anyone? Maybe some apple cake, bread, jam even some apple salad. So there, it is true that an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Happy eating and good health to you and your family.
